Table of contents listing all instructional math videos available from Chycho TV at www.chycho.com List of videos that are available for download at www.chycho.com INTRODUCTION: www.chycho.com During the last few years the education systems in Canada and the United States have been eroding. Students have been crammed into larger class sizes while the quality of teaching has deteriorated, in large part due to a lack of funding from local and federal governments. John Ralston Saul, one of Canada’s most celebrated authors and essayist, has warned us that “Canada’s democracy… is eroding with every dime deducted from education budgets.” I have stated previously that I believe “as a collective we must understand that democracy can only exist in a society with an educated populace, and the right for self-governance can only be obtained through knowledge.” I also believe that as long as the Internet remains Neutral, we, as a global community, can make a difference. We can fill the gap left behind by our governments and be proactive in educating our children Sharing our communal experiences and knowledge is the essence of the Internet and chycho.com is proud to be a part of this movement. The information contained and conveyed through this medium is what will shape our future, and this site was created to represent a unique personal perspective and to contribute in bringing about positive changes. As a result I have decide to produce instructional math videos to help those that … Video Rating: 4 / 5

Orlando Figesis a globally recognized writer and author of bestselling books entitled “A People’s Tragedy” The Russian Revolution 1891-1924”, “Natasha’s Dance” and “The Whisperers” he is considered as one of the most sought after personalities for his authored works. Orlando born on the 20th of November on 1959 came from a family line of amazing and gifted writers, his mother Eva Figes is a very well celebrated author for publishing 13 works of different categories from novels to non-fiction stories. His sister Kate Figes is also a successful author and editor that have made huge waves across the country, but Orlando sets the difference of his works from his family members, and that is because his passion lies within the core historical system of Russia alone. Orlando graduated at the Cambridge University in 1982 where he took up a degree in history at the Gonville and Caius College, after finishing his collegiate years; he then decided to opt for a Ph Degree in Russian History under the supervision and guidance of Norman Stone. It was in this moment where Orlando discovered a new found thrill and excitement about the field; he was so submerged with the historical events that have happened in Russia that he wanted to publish books about it.
Orlando Figesimmersed all of his time and effort in studying everything that has happened in the country of Russia, he got so passionate about every little and significant detail that has occurred from a small civilization to becoming one of the most feared nations of all time. In “A People’s Tragedy: The Russian Revolution 1891-1924” Orlando elaborated and sliced every important stories coming from different personalities and classes, from the lives of peasants to the critical times of the elite and prestigious figures of Russia, Figes tells it all. He said on one of his interviews that the book composes of abstract stories and inspiring messages about the different tragedies in the lives of the people alive during that era. It was because of this book where Orlando became hugely famous, his work received a lot of praise, recognition and more importantly awards such as the Wolfson Prize, also he was awarded with the W.H. Smith Literary Award, the Longman/History Today Book Prize, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and the NCR Book Award.
All these recognitions and accomplishments inspired Orlando Figes to even become more intimate with the history of the nation; he then again drowned his mind and body in creating a second addition to his authored works. By 2002, he published a new book called “Natasha’s Dance” this book comprises the rich traditions and culture of Russia, from the epic historical making of St. Petersburg during the reign of Peter the Great in the early eighteenth century. His last book called “The Whisperers” became available in the bookshelves on 2007; this was the latest addition to his works, which also became a best seller.

By Bruce Lipton Recent advances in cellular science are heralding an important evolutionary turning point. For almost fifty years we have held the illusion that our health and fate were preprogrammed in our genes, a concept referred to as genetic determinacy. Though mass consciousness is currently imbued with the belief that the character of one’s life is genetically predetermined, a radically new understanding is unfolding at the leading edge of science. Cellular biologists now recognize that the environment, the external universe and our internal physiology, and more importantly, our perception of the environment, directly controls the activity of our genes. This video will broadly review the molecular mechanisms by which environmental awareness interfaces genetic regulation and guides organismal evolution. Bruce lipton
About 10 years ago, a new math curriculum took the homeschool community by storm. Singapore Math, an exotic alternative to traditional math instruction, was touted as the ultimate math curriculum. After all, Asia was consistently trouncing the United States in Math scores, and Singapore Math was the curriculum they were using. Whatever they were doing was working, and it was working very well.
Persuaded by rave reviews, homeschoolers switched to Singapore Math in droves.
Fortunately for me, my parents said no thanks. I was being homeschooled at the time. I was doing just fine with my math lessons the way they were… nothing fancy, just ordinary, traditional math lessons filled with repetitive problem solving. If my parents would have switched to Singapore Math, I think it would have been a train wreck for them and for me.
Singapore Math’s main attraction is its focus on teaching mathematical thinking instead of repetitive problem solving.
The goal is to give students an understanding of the way math works instead of drilling formulas into their brains. Singapore Math students are walked through each component of the problem then presented them with the whole problem to solve. The goal is to train students to think actively as they work through each step of a problem, instead of mindlessly plugging formulas into repetitive problems.
Sounds great, right? Not if you’ve already been trained to learn math the old fashioned way. For years I had learned math by working out practice exercises. Please don’t take away my exercises and expect me to just think about it. That is a big leap for me!
If my parents had started me out with Singapore Math from the very beginning, I wouldn’t have known any different.
But even if I could make the leap, there is another problem with Singapore Math that I think is even harder to overcome, our teachers.
As hard as it might be for me and older U.S. students like me to make the transition from traditional math to Singapore Math, it must be even harder for U.S. teachers because they are just older students themselves. Teachers have more unlearning to do than the rest of us because they spent more years in school and then they spent years teaching math the traditional way. Old habits are hard to break!
As if this was not already hard enough, U.S. teachers have more adjustments to make than their students. With its focus on introducing new concepts thoroughly, Singapore Math requires teachers to slow down and focus intensely on areas the student does not understand right away. Forget about spending a few minutes to introduce the concept then moving on to practice drills. Teachers must be more aware of their students’ progress and frustrations and be prepared to present concepts in new ways, breaking them down more, encouraging students to think more, and not moving on until the student can see it and grasp it. That sounds hard!
Despite these challenges, I really do like what Singapore Math is trying to do because it makes a lot of sense to focus more on understanding the concepts than on memorizing formulas. All I’m trying to do is point out some stubborn realities that have to be dealt with and should be considered before anyone starts using this curriculum. Perhaps it should come with a warning label, ‘Warning: This is a lot different from what you are used to!’
Bringing Singapore Math textbooks into our classrooms is easy. Getting United States teaching methods out of our classrooms is not so easy.
