History would never be called such if it wasn’t for the people involved in it and the remarkable events that have occurred, for one writer, history is priceless and cannot be traded with anything precious. His name is no other than Orlando Figes, the famous author of the best selling books in Russian History entitled “Natasha’s Dance” “The Whisperers” and the “A People’s Tragedy: The Russian Revolution 1891-1924” his background in writing began developing even while he was still a little boy, Orlando comes from a bloodline of amazing writers and authors. His mother named Eva Figes is a celebrated author and writer of 13 epic works that comprises of novels and non-fiction works all focused on feminism, his sister Kate Figes also grew up to become one of the best authors and editors in the country. His skill in putting his adventures, imagination and ideas into words came from his mother, which is why when he was in middle school his mom decided to put him in William Ellis a famous grammar school in north of London. Orlando quickly went to the Gonville and Caius College at the Cambridge University to study history, and after which he then opted to take a Ph Degree in Russian History with the direction and guidance of Norman Stone.
While Orlando Figes was studying the history of Russia, he got sop fascinated and in love with its rich cultural and historical background that he wanted to publish works about it. Apart from being a writer and a very famous author, Orlando is also a professor of history at the Birkbeck College in London, he teaches the numerous fascinating details of different historical events and people. In 1996, he released his book dedicated to the history of Russia which is the “A People’s Tragedy” The Russian Revolution 1891-1924, he tells in this work the inspiring and moving different life tragedies of people during the revolution, from the simple affected life of the peasants to the scarcity problems of the rich and affluent, Orlando has jotted down everything in this book. The book became a smashing hit worldwide, for that Figes received numerous recognitions and awards such as the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the NCR Book Award, the Longman/History Today Book Prize, the W.H. Smith Literary Award and the Wolfson Prize.
Because the book was a sure fire hit, Orlando Figes became more immersed and aggressive of putting the rich cultural heritage and history of Russia to the surface. By 2002 Orlando released another book called “Natasha’s Dance” a composition of different cultural facts dating from the earliest eighteenth century during the reign of Peter the Great, to the rising of the St. Petersburg to the evolution of the small civilization to becoming one of the most powerful nations today. The book was published and translated in 20 different languages and was sold in every corner of the planet.
